4×4 Routes
Wondering what else to do in Henties Bay when the fishing is less than perfect? Explore the Namib Desert! This is nowadays becoming an even more popular pastime than fishing!
Henties Bay is blessed with a diversified desert environment, ranging from flat gypsum plains to mountainous and riverine landscapes. The area around Henties Bay, previously known as central Damaraland, is relatively undiscovered and has no marked routes. Please be aware that this is an remote area with very sensitive soil surfaces and lichen fields so keep on existing tracks and roads and NEVER venture over virgin land.
All the 4×4 routes in the Dorob National Park – Ugab Menhir, Messum Crater and Minerals / Strathmore South “Dead Sea” Routes – are now signposted and the roads graded.
You need a permit to drive these routes which can be obtained from the Henties Bay Tourism Office.
