IMPORTANT NOTICE

All the 4x4 routes in the Dorob National Park - Ugab Menhir, Messum Crater and Minerals/Dead Sea Routes - are now signposted and the roads graded.

Although the signs state that a permit is needed this has not been implemented yet, but will come into effect this year still. 
Please find out from the Henties Bay Tourist Office what the situation is before you venture onto these routes.

Visitors should take care that they stay on the demarcated routes - an A4 satellite map is available form the tourist office and can be ordered from info@hentiesbaytourism.com

Wondering what else to do in Henties Bay when the fishing is less than perfect?

Explore the Namib Desert.  This is nowadays becoming an even more popular pastime than fishing!

Henties Bay is blessed with a diversified desert environment, ranging from flat gypsum plains to mountainous and riverine landscapes.  The areas around Henties Bay, previously known as central Damaraland, is relatively undiscovered and has no marked routes.  But please beware that this is remote area with very sensitive soil surfaces and lichen fields. No permit is needed to enter these areas but please keep on existing roads and tracks and NEVER venture over virgin land.

The Henties Bay Tourism Association created maps with GPS coordinates for various 4x4 routes and an information booklet for each route is for sale at the Henties Bay Tourist Office.  Most of these routes are not negotiable without GPS coordinates.
